Male Rape Awareness
Campaign
This project is was big on my heart when I was making it. When this project was assigned I knew that my campaign had to be on this topic, because someone I was close with had experienced sexual assault in the recent past.
So I felt like the least I could do to the support them was to help spread the word about the issue, because many people do not think about the idea of a man getting raped.
When I began work on this project I want to show the gruesome truth about the subject. This was because it is an awareness campaign rather than a support campaign. The way that I decided to go about this was through the lense that there was a scenario where someone had been at the bar or a party and been taken advantage of, as it often happens. I also wanted to emphasize the fact that while this was about male rape the the problem regardless is rape itself and can happen to anyone so to show this I made the word rape all caps.
To further the campaign reach I entered it in the ADDY’s and ended up getting a silver ADDY award in the Magazine Spread Category.
I am very happy with how the piece came out as a whole and the message it promotes.
